“I'don’t care how much it is, go and buy it!”
-
Richard Burton
What
Richard Burton said as he fed coins into a payphone at a
well-known hotel in southern England, October 24, 1969,
determined to acquire a 69.42 carat pear-shaped
diamond he’d lost the day before in bidding at
a
Parke-Bernet auction in New York City.
Burton was successful in his second attempt to buy
the diamond.
He
had it mounted as a |

necklace for Elizabeth Taylor. Miss Taylor wore it for
the first time November 12, 1969 when she attended
Princess Grace’s 40th birthday party in Monaco. The
diamond was flown from New York City to Nice, France in
the company of armed guards hired by Burton. The
Taylor-Burton diamond became legendary and remains the
most famous diamond necklace in history.
We
have acquired a collection of breathtakingly brilliant
pear-shaped diamonds inspired by the Taylor-Burton
diamond. Quite simply, a necklace is the most beautiful
way to wear a pear-shape diamond… Liz would agree.
