When you purchase a Maine tourmaline from Cross we document your gem and mounting with an appraisal for insurance purposes. (Three copies: one for you, one for your insurance company, and one kept in the permanent records of Cross Jewelers; complete with photographs.) Appraisals are done on values of $350.00 and up. We also provide you with information on the mine in which your gem was found.

Soon after the extraordinary find of 3 1/2 million carats of gem tourmaline in 1972, we began the Cross Historical Registry of Maine tourmaline. We felt it was important that a master record be established to document and record all the beautiful designs which we were creating with Maine tourmaline. This historical record of several volumes contains thousands of entries showing detail production notes on each piece made, dates created, and date of sale, as well as a hand colored sketch, and the buyer's or recipient's name. Each piece is assigned a registry number which appears on the appraisal.

We believe this thorough documentation is important, as each of these fine pieces of jewelry will someday be passed on to children and grandchildren. It's nice to have ways to verify the identity and origin of a work of art.

Most of our rings are a size 6 1/2. We recommend you receive your selection in the existing size.
